Saint Johns Church has a long-standing history in Virginia. It was established at Henricus in 1611 as Henrico Parish Church. Many storied people and events have passed through the doors of this church. Pocahontas was kidnapped and held captive at Henricus. On Good Friday in 1622, the church and everything around it were destroyed in an Indian raid. The church was later moved to Richmond, Virginia. There, it stood as whizz of the most important locations of the Revolutionary War. In 1741 Henrico Parish Church moved to Richmond, Virginia. It was built on land donated by William Byrd II, who also donated the timber used to build the church and supply the fire used in the kiln to bake the bricks. Col. Richard Randolph, Thomas Jeffersons Great-Uncle, built Saint Johns Church and established it on June 10, 1741. In 1772 a 40-foot square extension was added to the blue side of the church, later aloneowing it to be the perfect location for the second and third Virginia Convention.
